Healthy diet foods to lose belly fat

Ok, you've been asking for it. So I've finally broken down and put together my "Top 10".

Those of you who know me, know that I hate the word "diet" and the context that it's used. I'll say it once again.

We're all on diets.

A diet is nothing more then what you eat.

So for those of us that follow this philosophy, we never, ever go on a diet, we only change our diet. That being said, I guess I'd better explain why I've named this article "The Top 10 Diet Foods to Lose Belly Fat".

You can break food into two groups, food that's good for you and food that's not good for you. If you were only to eat food that's good for you, (I want to see raised hands, anyone?), then you're still going to have to look at what foods cause you to gain weight and those that don't. So even under good foods we have fattening foods and slimming foods or diet foods, (cringe, did I really say that?).

Good diet foods to lose belly fat

Ok, so I could've named this article "The Top 10 Slimming Foods To Lose Belly Fat", but I didn't like the title as well so now that I've rambled about the title of this article way more than I probably should have, lets get down to the meat of it, (no pun intended). In no particular order:

Beans - High in fiber and protein, these bad boys will fill you up and are a great low calorie substitute for meat. In fact, when used as a substitute for meat you cut the saturated fats. Tip: Soak beans overnight to keep them from being "gassy".

Eggs - Ok, again this ones high on the list of Protein substitutes. High in protein and B vitamins, eggs provide a great way to start the day and feel good. B12 is used to help metabolize fat so what better way to start your day.

Oatmeal - Fiber rich and stays with you through the morning. Pure oatmeal, (not the packets with added sugar boost), is a heart healthy way to start your day and will help you to keep from being hungry.

Almonds - I'm nuts over these little guys! Seriously, Almonds are high in vitamin E, calcium, phosphorous, iron and magnesium. They are truly heart healthy and you don't have to eat a lot of them. I usually have 8-10 as a snack and the benefits include everything from relief from constipation to help with your lungs.

Berries - The powerhouse of nutrition. Rich in antioxidants, fiber and vitamins. Berries are good fresh or dried and make great snacks as well as adding them to salads and other foods.

Lean Meats and Fish - Ok, so a double cheeseburger may taste really good, but it just doesn't fit into a top 10 foods category. Lean meats like turkey provide high doses of protein. Even better is fish which is high in protein and omega-3's which help prevent stress and burn even more fat.

Whole grains - Everybody seems to think that wheat bread is a whole grain bread. Nay, nay, no! Stay away from wheat, even in the whole grains. Buy whole grain breads that don't include wheat. Why, you ask? First off, most of the products that you buy that say wheat is actually refined wheat and has been stripped of all of its fiber and nutrients.

Secondly, simply put it's a problematic food and unfortunately most people don't know that. They hear wheat and they naturally think that it must be nutritious. It can lead to intestinal problems, parasitic infections and food allergies. If there's one food that should be cut completely out of your diet, it should be wheat.
Ok, whole grains though are good for you. Again, these are full of fiber, B vitamins, folic acid and other nutrients that can lead to a healthier heart and help prevent constipation.

Leafy greens and green vegetables - We're not talking iceberg lettuce here folks. Leafy greens are like spinach and arugula. Green vegetables like broccoli. It's all good and full of vitamins and fiber. Probably the most important of which is vitamin K which is great for blood and bone health just to name a couple of the benefits.

Olive Oil - Hey, we all have to cook so do it with something that not only tastes good, but is so good for you. Olive oil lowers the bad cholesterol and raises the good. It's high in monounsaturated fats that are beneficial to the stomach and intestines. Only buy Extra Virgin olive oil as it is the least processed and the best for you.

Whey - Surprised? Whey is a byproduct of dairy products processing. Such as when they make cheese or cottage cheese. It's very high in protein and it burns fat while building muscle mass. What this means then is that you will cut your body fat percentage and burn fat quicker. I love this stuff. Add it to anything and make it a little bit tastier or make a shake with it and some berries before and after a workout. Nutritionally it has many benefits.
